Master Builder of the Year Award for the Best Refurbishment Project
Cedar Court was originally a Tudor property built in Colchester. It was deconstructed during the beginning of the 20th century and was transported by horse and cart and rebuilt in its current setting and finally completed in 1913. Following World War 2, it was purchased by the Catholic Church and used as a language school until it was purchased by our client with a view to restoring it to its former glory as a family home.
This truly was a labour of love, requiring close coordination with English Heritage and the local archaeological society as the building is a grade 2 listed structure.
The property was successfully completed, reducing the former 40 bedrooms to 10 and incorporating all the modern features that a 21st-century owner would expect despite its 16th-century veneer.
The works were of such an outstanding standard that we were awarded the “Master Builder of the Year” award for the best refurbishment project in 2008.
